Hands on workshops
The SEVC workshops give delegates a unique hands-on laboratory experience. Working with small groups (maximum 25 people), world-class instructors will teach new techniques using the latest equipment.
Delegates can register for the workshops only, without registering for the SEVC Scientific Programme.
The workshops are presented in english, but instructors will provide assistance in Spanish.

How to manage the most complex patellar luxation cases
Medial patellar luxation is a very common orthopaedic problem in both dogs and cats. Successful treatment of these conditions requires an accurate diagnosis and thorough assessment. Patients with severe luxations often represent a therapeutic challenge, as they cannot usually be resolved using standard surgical techniques. This course will provide updated information on the aetiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of dogs with grade 3 or 4 medial patellar luxation. The programme will focus on diagnosis, planning, and the treatment of femoral and tibial deformities that cause medial patellar luxation. Theoretical sessions and hands-on laboratory practice will address the correction of femoral and tibial deformities using the CORA methodology. Participants will gain a real understanding of the mechanism underlying patellar luxation, the decisive factors influencing it, as well as the diagnostic techniques required for decision-making and surgical planning. Special attention will be given to performing corrective osteotomy for distal femoral varus deformity and proximal tibial torsional deformity. Additionally, as a complementary technique, block recession sulcoplasty for deepening of the trochlear groove will be reviewed. The workshop will alternate between theoretical lectures and corresponding practical sessions on bone models. Real clinical cases of femoral and tibial angular deformities will be presented, beginning with radiographs and CT scans. From DICOM images, 3D reconstructions of the affected areas will be created in order to print the bones as plastic models. Following the corrective study of bone deformities, the Biomedical Engineering Department of BETA will provide customised osteotomy/ostectomy/temporary fixation guides. Using these customised guides and the printed plastic bones, participants will simulate the surgical procedure, concluding with the placement of definitive implants and correction of the deformity.

One step further in abdominal ultrasound!
In this practical workshop with animals, participants, divided into groups of four, will learn the key points to identify anatomical structures that are difficult to observe but linked to relatively common pathologies in small animal clinics. Such as pancreatic lobes, lymph nodes, gastrointestinal and hepatic arteries and veins. A section will also be dedicated to planning ultrasound-guided abdominal punctures, visually placing the probe according to the organ to be punctured. This workshop is aimed at participants with prior knowledge and experience in abdominal ultrasound.

Why not use your ultrasound to diagnose traumatic cases?
After a theoretical introduction to describe the technical principles of musculoskeletal ultrasound, in this practical workshop with animals, participants divided into groups of four, will learn how to handle and position the ultrasound probe to optimize the observation of most clinically relevant joint and muscle-tendon structures. Once the practice of identifying the different anatomical structures is completed, participants will review clinical cases with a brief clinical history and ultrasound videos to diagnose the most common musculoskeletal pathologies, both traumatic and degenerative, diagnosable via ultrasound.

The synergy of abdominal radiology and ultrasound
In this mixed radiographic and ultrasound interpretation workshop, participants will review clinical cases on a computer in pairs, highlighting the complementary information that radiographic and ultrasound imaging can provide in abdominal pathologies. Each case will include a brief clinical history and corresponding radiographic images and ultrasound clips for diagnosis. Identifying abnormalities and listing differential diagnoses will allow for proper case management. The groups will identify different abnormalities and create a list of differential diagnoses with appropriate clinical recommendations for treating the animal. A discussion will follow between all groups to organize the findings, prioritize differential diagnoses, and evaluate interpretation details, focusing on the most common abdominal clinical cases.

Identifying the most complicated in hepatodigestive ultrasound.
In this advanced ultrasound interpretation workshop, participants will review clinical cases of particularly complicated hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal pathologies in pairs on a computer. Identifying abnormalities and creating a list of differential diagnoses will improve case management, enhancing interpretive skills. Participants will identify abnormalities and generate a differential diagnosis list with appropriate clinical recommendations. A discussion will follow to organize findings, prioritize diagnoses, and focus on complex hepatodigestive clinical cases commonly encountered in daily practice. This workshop is aimed at participants with a good foundation in ultrasound training.

The keys to handling frustration and its consequences in your cat
This practical and interactive workshop focuses on frustration as an underlying cause of many behavioral problems in cats, such as aggression, excessive vocalization, repetitive behaviors, or inappropriate elimination. This is the first feline behavior workshop organized within the SEVC congress framework. Due to animal welfare limitations, no cats will be physically present. However, the experience will be highly educational and dynamic thanks to the joint analysis of real clinical cases, including videos, development of comprehensive intervention plans, and simulated interviews with tutors using a new artificial intelligence model. Participants will learn to identify subtle signs of frustration in cats and develop structured behavioral intervention programs based on the pyramid of needs, integrating environmental and pharmacological strategies. Practical tools for systematically evaluating clinical cases and designing effective treatments will also be provided. Interactive simulations with AI will allow participants to practice managing tutor emotional responses and improve communication skills during consultations. This workshop is for clinicians who wish to deepen their approach to feline behavior with a practical focus on the animal’s welfare and its family environment.

Learn how to diagnose cardiopulmonary pathologies radiographically
After receiving a brief clinical history, participants will review thoracic radiographs of the lung and heart. Interpretation skills and case management recommendations will be enhanced during these reviews. In this workshop, participants will be paired in front of a computer station where radiographs and clinical histories will be provided for each group. Identifying pertinent findings, creating differential diagnoses, and discussing case management recommendations will be done in a structured manner to build solid interpretive skills.
